Biosoc #151
Chairperson – Rosha McDonnell
Hi everyone!! My name is Rosha Mc Donnell and I am running for chairperson of Biosoc this year!! I have had an absolute blast this year being a rep, and I would be honoured to play a part of Biosoc 151. If there are any prizes going for sending the most emojis in a message into the group chat this year, I think I have that one in the bag. Biosoc has been a huge part of my college experience, and I have met all of my best friends through Biosoc (big love). I’ll never forgive you all for taking away my Sligo accent though, to the disgust of some of my home friends I think Biosoc has helped me settle in a bit TOO well into Dublin life. Some of my best (and most embarrassing…) moments of college so far have been witnessed at Biosoc events, and I would love to play a part in organising those events, and keeping the fun (and inevitable fear the next morning) alive!! Anyone who knows me knows that I have never been relaxed ever, and I would love to channel all of my energy into my role as chair if you all will have me. I am a firm believer that being social and getting to know each other is one of the most important parts of our time in medical school, and as someone who has attended every Biosoc event humanly possible, I think I can do a great job of organising events and getting everyone involved. Orla, Shane and all of the committee have done such an amazing job making Biosoc 150 one to remember, and if elected I will have a huge job in filling their boots next year. I promise to keep the intoxication club on side for next year and keep the cocktails flowing! I love Biosoc, I think it is such an important part of all of our lives, and I would really appreciate the chance to be chair next year.
Lots of love,
Rosha xx
Secretary – Laura Cole
Hi guys, my name is Laura Cole and I would be honoured to be your secretary for biosoc 151 committee next year.
I have absolutely adored every minute of being on this year’s committee and would love the chance to continue next year.
As all in my year can attest I have hounded our years group chat about biosoc events and if you elect me as secretary you will have the joy of having me in your email inbox aswell.
Biosoc has been such a huge part of my college life and there’s nothing in my opinion that a good biosoc night out can’t fix (trust me our year would know)
This years commitee have done such an incredible job with Biosoc I promise if you give me the chance I will take such good care of her.
xx Laura
Treasurer – Paul McConkey
Hello, my name is Paul McConkey and I come from Clones, a town right on the border between Monaghan and Fermanagh proving that both counties do indeed exist. I have been an enthusiastic participant of BIOSOC events, from being overly competitive at Med-Cup to making the most out of every night out. It would be a privilege to serve as treasurer on the 151st committee. BIOSOC is a fantastic society that helps so much with integrating within both your year but also 1st through to 5th which I think is such an important part of the society.
In terms of experience for the role, in my second year, I was JCR secretary in Trinity Halls. This included organising the Halls Freshers fair, hall ball, a formal black tie event that over 350 students attended and countless other club and social events that I believe put me in a strong place to understand the financial and logistical aspects involved in organising the events BIOSOC holds. This year I have really enjoyed my time as MOVE treasurer, it has further developed my event planning and drastically helped with my account-keeping and Excel skills which definitely needed work!
I would greatly appreciate it if you could vote for me as next year’s BIOSOC Treasurer!
Public Relations Officer – Grace Rooney
Hi everyone I’m Grace and I am running to be your next PRO !!
I am first and foremost a Biosoc enthusiast. I have Biosoc to thank for some of the best nights out over the last 3 years and for me having any friends in medicine lol. So, why would I be a good PRO? First of all, I would love nothing more than to have the job of crafting social media posts and captions. If elected, I would keep the instagram alive as ever so that none of you could forget about Biosoc even if you tried. Of course, I am well acquainted with being a social media presence since my feature on Linda Doyles insta last Medday with Rosha and laura.
Another big part of the PRO role is securing sponsorships. For the past two years I have had the very important and highly respected job of Red Bull rep, where I have worked with nearly every society on campus to provide them with Red Bull. As a result, I have a great understanding of how these conversations work and I have connections with adjacent brand reps for sponsorship opportunities. (I’m also keen to uncover how we are blackmailing Bobos for unlimited free burgers at every event.)
To conclude, I would be delighted to be a part of the wonderful committee and hope you vote for me to be your next PRO!
Much love,
Grace xx
Entertainment Officers – Ella Clancy and Sadie Myers
Ella Clancy
Hi guys I’m Ella, and one thing about me is that even if I don't end up remembering it, I do throw a great party – and that's why I am running to be your BioSoc ENTS officer for this year.
As secretary of MOVE this year I’ve been at the forefront of organising all of our sellout events this year. This year alone I organised the Med Day Gig in Workman’s, MOVE Ball, pub quizzes, bingo locos to name a few. At the expense of being that incessant girl in your inbox harassing you to come to events, I can safely say that in us raising over 27k this year, it has paid off.
As a testament to my dedication to BioSoc, I present the Med Ball Booklet… which I forced my own dad to print, shamelessly airing out ALL my dirty laundry in the process. Prepare for a whole burn book next year xoxo
My theatre kid tendencies mean that I can shamelessly MC an event, charm venue managers, and hype a crowd when needed. And yes, the karaoke nights will be elite. On a serious note, med is a hard slog and events are the best outlet for destress and chance
Sadie Myers
Hi everyone,
My name is Sadie and I would love to be this year’s ENTS officer for the 151st BIOSOC committee.
I have been a proud member of BIOSOC for 3 years now and would love to join the committee to help organise another amazing year of events. Most of my favourite memories from medicine were at BIOSOC events; managing our year at this year’s Medcup, running around the streets of Bundoran as Harley Quinn and of course medball!!!! If you didn’t know, I’m from Kerry (crazy) and I didn’t know anyone before coming to Trinity, however the first year BIOSOC pub crawl was where I met most of my friends and I would love to help organize this event to welcome the new first years and help them with the difficult transition to Uni.
I have been the chairperson of MOVE for the last year and although most of third year is now scared of me… I think they can all agree I have put so much energy and effort into making this year a great year for MOVE and I promise to give even more to BIOSOC. I am so grateful to have gotten this experience and have enjoyed every second of it and I would love
to keep it going with BIOSOC. Although we had some slip ups (it was Paul’s fault we got kicked out of the club at 11pm), I am now prepared and will ensure that medball lasts longer than 3 hrs…
Why should I be your ENTS officer?
- I am a bit of a control freak so I have been on nearly every subcommicee for MOVE, I was involved in the organizadon of the freshers mixer, freshers fair, all 4 HPAT seminars, the halloween club night, the fun run, MOVE ball, two raffles, three bake sales, MOVE boxing and intro to med. (It is safe to say it has been a busy year).
- I love a great night out and throw a great party!!! But I also want to organize events for everyone so will make sure there are also non-alcohol events throughout the year.
- I have embarrassed myself enough dmes at BIOSOC events so I think it’s only fair I now get to organize the events and allow others to embarrass themselves. (it’s someone else’s turn to pass out at medball…)
- I have an amazing reladonship with BoBo’s man so I promise lots of burgers at events.
- I love to travel and have a hundred ideas for the Christmas trip!!!
- I genuinely care about making BIOSOC events unforgecable
But let’s talk about the main event for a second… MEDBALL!!!! Organising MOVE ball this year was so fun. I hope everyone had an amazing night and enjoyed our theme and decorations however, the aim of MOVE is to raise money for underfunded hospitals in developing countries and while that has been rewarding, we had to ball on a budget (pun intended) but imagine how amazing I will make medball with the BIOSOC budget!!!!
Ordinary Committee Member – Koby Fowler and Finnian King
Koby Fowler
Hey gang,
My name is Koby and I would love to be one of the OCMs for the 151st committee.
Since starting in Trinity almost 3 years ago, Biosoc has given me some of the best craic with a brilliant group of people (cringe, I’m aware).
But like with any good relationship, it should be all about give and take…. And Biosoc has definitely stripped me of my dignity from time to time. For anyone who got to experience the cheesecake at MedBall in Carlow, you know Biosoc does a great dessert. For anyone who didn’t… sincere apologies, myself or @finnianking probably ate yours (any utensils going?!).
But honestly, my commitment to Biosoc knows no bounds. MedBall in Siberia? I’d move mountains to be there… or at least book the cheapest flight on Skyscanner.
All jokes aside, Biosoc really is at the heart of studying medicine in Trinity. From making new mates to creating new memories with the ones you already have, this society is the outlet we all need. I’m ready to serve the upcoming committee and play my part in making sure everyone has the best possible year.
Biosoc, you’ve been a blast,
Koby
Finnian King
Hey everyone,
My name’s Finnian and I’d love to be one of the critically acclaimed, highly sought after OCMs on Biosoc 151.
As you all know, Biosoc is such a special and unique group (cult?). Biosoc brings us all together in a way that first year histology lectures never could. The mates I’ve made through Biosoc and Biosoc’s social calendar really has been a central part of college so far for me, as I’m sure it has been for all of ye.
One minute you’re sitting in the Squek with no mates and the next you’re standing next to Koby at MedBall with cheesecake all over our hands (don’t call the police please – we’ve matured?)
On a more serious note, I think I have much to add to the next year of Biosoc and if elected I promise that this next year will be an unforgettable one for us all (even though it’s a tall task following this year’s stellar committee – it’s now been unequivocally proven that a night away for MedBall is 100% the move). I’d be honoured if you vote for me to be one of the OCMs for Biosoc 151 and give me the chance to give back to such a special part of studying medicine in Trinity.
Biosoc mates, it’s been outrageously fun and genuinely unforgettable thus far, let’s keep the fire burning.
Cheers,
Finnian
3rd Year Reps – Louise Mulcahy and Ben Cahill
Louise Mulcahy – no manifesto
Ben Cahill
(say it with me now) heyyyy divas 😻😻😻
My name is Ben and I am back for even more Biosoc baby! I want to be your 3rd year rep and I think I’d do a whopper job. I am always on the ball and know what’s going on when and where buttt I also know how to let my hair down. It’s all about balance you see – i worked 2 part time jobs during neuro block, I’m qualified. I love being part of a team and doing whatever’s needed to make sure that all of our events are as amazing as possible – that means I will be hounding the course group chat but don’t worry it’s chic and cool when I do it, swear. I also have chronically debilitating FOMO so I will be at every event, trust and believe (going directly from 12 pubs to Budapest was not my brightest idea but #noregrets). We’re gonna be split up in the hospitals next year so Biosoc events are gonna be even more important for me to see your lovely little faces. I feel that I have a great presence within the course, I am outgoing and personable and I’ll be able to rope people in on the fun. Be sound, vote me, yay Biosoc!
2nd Year Reps – Anna Sophia Keane and Peter Cummings
Anna Sophia Keane
I would love the opportunity to run for second year representative for BIOSOC 151. This last year I was lucky enough to be the first year rep for Biosoc. This experience was easily the highlight of my first year in medicine and I will always be grateful for the chance I had to be a part of such an incredible society. As a first year rep I made every effort I could to attend all of the Biosoc events and lend a hand wherever I could. The opportunity of being a rep allowed me to meet the amazing committee who made me feel so welcome. I would love to become the second year rep and pass the warm welcome I received onto the next first years. Being able to attend the meetings and see how the society puts together events has inspired me to want to continue on as an active member of Biosoc and hopefully given me insight that will allow me to contribute further as a second year rep. As a first year rep I encouraged the participation of my classmates in Biosoc events, although this wasn’t a difficult job as Biosoc’s reputation advertises for itself. Still I enjoyed being a point of contact for people in my year and meeting people who I would otherwise not have. As second year rep I would continue to promote the events and hopefully include more members of my year group. Overall I would love to continue on as a part of the committee because I believe Biosoc is what provides the balance that makes medicine such a great course and I want to be a part of it and support it in every way I can.
Peter Cummings
I’m interested in running for Second Year Rep for Biosoc because I want to help make this year not just a blur of lectures, labs, and caffeine but a year full of fun. Biosoc is such a huge part of what makes medicine in Trinity more than just studying, and I want to help keep that going.
From the nights out to the big med ball and everything in between, Biosoc knows how to bring people together and I want to make sure our year’s right at the heart of it. I’m approachable, I show up, and I’m always up for helping plan or hype up events that people want to go to.
I want to make sure our year has a proper presence in Biosoc, gets involved, and has a laugh along the way. Whether it’s helping out behind the scenes or making sure the craic is kept alive, I’m ready to put the effort in.
If you’re looking for someone who’ll represent us well and help make this year something to remember, I’d love to be voted.
Cheers,
Peter Cummings
Med Day manifestoes
Med Day Chairperson – Zoe Gardiner
Hi everyone!
My name is Zoe and I would love love LOVEEEEEE to be your Chair for MedDay next year! It would be such an honour to be MedDay chair for the next year and help bring some joy and magic to MedDay that I think it gives all of us!
I would rather die, than not be a part of MedDay, I was hooked right from the first year (this is no exaggeration). Running for second year rep was honestly one of the best decisions I have made in my life. I have enjoyed every moment on the committee ever since I joined and have learned so much about the inner workings since (and yes that does mean harassing the past chairs).
If you don’t know me, I would be MORE than happy to ditch the library to fulfil MedDay duties and while I won’t make any crazy claims about what I hope to do next year, I can promise that I will work hard to make sure that everyone enjoys the day itself, but also that we raise some serious money for our beneficiaries.
Thank you so much for listening and for your consideration!
– Zoe <3
Secretary – Aleksandra Majkusiak
hi everyone,
my name is Ola and I’m running for Med Day secretary this year. After 3 years of being on the committee as a year rep, I think I’m ready to take on the responsibility and help Zoe run Med Day 2025. Having the experience of 3 years on the committee, I’ve seen three wonderful consecutive secretaries doing their job and I feel like I am as ready to take over as I could ever be.
Still not convinced my experience with Med Day is good enough? I cannot offer much more but my full commitment and here’s its proof. So… I actually skipped half of my family holiday to be present at the AGM and I dropped a volleyball team captain role for the next year to be able to give my 100% to Med Day. That said, I believe that me choosing Med Day over my family and passion actually speaks volumes and, as far as my commitment issues go, Med Day should not be affected.
On a side note, being a sports team captain is not the worst training at dealing with a stressful admin job (some would say I did a great job, but there’s a chance they’re simply afraid of me). We’ve had the best ex-tennis captain Chairperson, we may as well get an ex volleyball captain secretary.
Is it still a tiny step out of my comfort zone? Maybe. But that’s what brought me to Med Day in the first place 3 years ago and I cannot imagine experiencing med school any other way. I would really reallly appreciate your votes,
xx
Ola
Treasurer – Vishnu Mohan
Hey everyone my name is Vishnu and I’m running for Treasurer this year! One thing I love about Medday is that it brings together all of the years and gives all of us great memories that will last. The day itself is nothing short of magical, you’d struggle to see half the year make it in for a 9am lecture but somehow the 6am start is not a bother for us.
Medday is responsible for a day and events we all enjoy and gives us many memories but at the root of it, Medday gives funding to the forgotten parts of medicine and hospitals, and has an impact on people’s everyday life. As I’ve had more experience in the hospitals this year I’ve got to see the impact that some of the specific beneficiaries have on patients and their families.
In terms of experience in societies; I’m currently the ENTS officer for the newly organised Internal Medicine Society and am currently the TBH Rep for the PaedsSoc – something i’ve learnt this year is how much planning and work can go into a single day
The last committee did an amazing job with medday and their many events and raised a massive amount for amazing beneficiaries and I would really love to be a part of something this special.
Thank you,
Vishnu.
PRO – Ellen Harbison
My name is Ellie Harbison, and I’m running for MedDay PRO! I’ve been the Public Relations Officer for Friends of MSF and Paediatrics Society this past year (guess you could say I’m a bit of a pro ), and I’ve spent so much time on Canva I have recurring dreams about fonts. If you vote for me I can promise that MedDay Instagram posts will be made on time every time, because I’ve never forgotten anything (that’s a lie and I have the pharmacology grades to prove it )
In all seriousness, MedDay is such a great cause and a highlight of medical school and having taken part the last few years I’d really love to get involved in organising this year!
OCM – Cara Gallagher, Rahul Bhatt and Cuillean McHugh
Cara Gallagher
Hey everyone!!
My name is Cara and I would absolutely LOVE to be one of your OCMs for next year’s Med Day committee!! 🎉
Now you may ask… WHY Cara? Well, Med Day is honestly the highlight of my year!! I’d absolutely love to get more involved in organising the big day next year and planning all the other Med Day events throughout the year!! (Notably Med Cup – best believe you’d be seeing my phenomenal soccer skills in action 👀⚽).
I can’t wait to go “MAD for Med Day” next year and would love to get everyone more involved in the big run up!! I’ve been involved in VDP since first year and I think this experience will really pull through for raising money and volunteering!!
Pub quiz organisation has become a frequent hobby of mine (one of my most recent events hailed “best pub quiz of all time” – Clara Donaghy) If that doesn’t suffice, I am a music enthusiast and was involved in Med Gig last year! I think these talents could lend themselves to Med Day events like no other!!
Again, as a Med Day fanatic myself, I’d love to have a hand in making next year’s Med Day the best one yet, all while making bank for our amazing beneficiaries. I would be so grateful if you would consider me for OCM!!
Thanks a mil everyone,
Cara xx 💖
Rahul Bhatt
Hi! I’m Rahul and I’d love to be part of your MedDay team next year!
MedDay is the best day of the year – maybe the only day I actually want to go to TBSI.
I produced the VDP Panto this year, which had its own bucket collecting (not as magnificent as MedDay of course), and I think that experience will be beneficial on MedDay committee.
MedDay does so much to help our teaching hospitals and other initiatives like the TAP events throughout the year, and I’d love to help out in any way I can!
Thanks for reading 🙂
Rahul
Cuilleann McHugh
Hi! My name is Cuileann and I’d love to be a part of your MedDay committee next year as an OCM! I’m a big med day fan, I pride myself on my 3 year streak of making it in at 6am to shake that bucket and still making it to the club, and I have no intentions of changing that next year or the year after! As well as living for all the social events that Med day has provided, I have also loved getting involved in the TAP Mini Med Days, it’s incredible to see the impact that all of our effort can have.
I have experience working on a charity committee after being one of this year’s fundraising officers with StreetDoctors where we hit all of our goals and far beyond, so I know what goes into planning a successful event! I also have plenty of experience in learning to adapt plans to overcome last minute challenges. I have no problems with reaching out to/hounding sponsors to help take some of the weight off students to raise as much money as possible for our beneficiaries!
Med day is something that I am truly passionate about and look forward to every year, and I can guarantee my complete and relentless commitment to this role. I’m looking forward to working with the committee to make the next med day the biggest one we’ve seen yet!
Thanks! – Cuileann
3rd Year Rep – Henry Li and Ryan Gallagher
Henry Li
Hey everyone! I’m Henry and I would love to be your MedDay 3rd year rep. I absolutely love being involved with MedDay and have been a rep for the past 2 years. MedDay has made my first 2 years of college so much more enjoyable and I would love to continue running for a committee role for another year. Am willing to be pied again at the pav 🙂
Thanks so much!
Henry
Ryan Gallagher
Heyya Hens, it’s your favorite Medday committee members favorite Medday rep. I’m 19 hailing from the lone star state (Clare) and I am currently a 2nd year Medday rep. Being on Medday this year has meant the absolute world to me, as anyone who’s been caught in a conversation with me knows (Was probably me drunkenly waffeling on and probably blowing smoke into your face without giving you a chance to speak lol. I’m SOO sorry btw). I would absolutely love to continue my raine (Of tierney) on Medday as a 3rd year
rep.
MedDay is one of my favorite day of the year (I sacrificed my ankles in a pair of new docs this year, believe me, THAT’S LOVE). Being a part of the committee gave me the chance to give back to some of our teaching hospitals first hand by collecting raffle prizes and guilt tripping my friends into donating a small fortune at every med day event. Thank you so much for reading my manifesto and your consideration! <3 =)
2nd Year Rep – Henry Li and Ryan Gallagher
Hannah O’Donoghue
I would love to be a 2nd year rep for medday next year! I had such a great time as a 1st year rep this year. The experience really helped me to get out of my comfort zone and to get to know more people in medicine.
The work that medday does is really inspiring. I think in the preclinical years it can be hard to visualise what all the study is for but getting involved in medday has been a great way to see the impact that can be made. Hearing about the incredible projects that this year’s beneficiaries are carrying out and the difference that they will make to patients’ experiences is really exciting.
The first year’s involvement at medday events this year was great, we had really good turnouts at events including karaoke, medday itself and the preclinical mixer. I would love to be a second year rep and get even more attendance and engagement at these events next year.
Also everyone on medday this year made me feel so welcome and it really added to how much I enjoyed the year, I would love to get to do that for the incoming 1st year reps !!
Adam Hartley
Overall I think it comes down to 2 main factors:
1 – Having a good time.
2 – Raising as much money and awareness as possible for the beneficiaries.
I genuinely think I’ll be able to help find the best balance between the two, and I don’t just think so but I have the experience to back it up. In my last email to you at the start of the year I outlined how I was head of a student run charity called SHARE in Cork for a year, doing practically the same thing as Medday but for a 10 day Christmas collection with students and for a different cause. I got a lot of really valuable experience during the course of the year and especially during the Christmas collection, and actually ended up breaking the record for most amount of money collected (can’t say how much exactly obviously but it starts with 3 and has 6 figures lol). Anyway, that’s number 2 sorted. And in terms of number 1 I guess you’ll just have to vote for me and find out 🙂
